Mercy- Great Post! This really struck a chord with me - I'd never really thought about this. I definitely had 100x more cravings when I was a smoker than I do now! I always thought I could never quit because I could never endure the cravings, when in fact I was enduring cravings all of the time as a smoker.
Another fallacy that I've just recognized is the false credit I assigned to smoking.
I used smoking to help me get through the following: when I was tired, when I was anxious, when I was sad, when I wanted to relax/unwind, when I was excited & wanted to celebrate, when I was hungry, when I was bored, when I was full, when I was stressed/overwhelmed, etc.
This makes no sense!!! How could smoking: make me both awake & help me to unwind/relax? hold off hunger & help me digest when full? make me feel entertained when bored & calm when stressed, etc.?
Nothing can stimulate you/wake you up and other times (at your discretion) make you relax/calm down! Nothing can make you feel full when hungry and at other times make you feel less full after you eat! As smokers, we seemed to credit nictoine as this miracle drug that could help in every situation. What nonsense!!!
