Avoiding self care

kittcat6166, When going through difficult times, it's very important to take care of yourself. By doing so, you will notice that you will be able to get through the events or difficult times easyer. I've been doing well these past few weeks. I'm continuing my exposure work and increasing my hours at work. However, I've noticed that when I'm really stressed, I tend to really avoid doing exactly what is good for me (self care). This past week I found out that my beloved family pet had a terminal illness. I managed my emotions quite well. I didn't cry or get upset and stayed calm, which is a real improvement for me. But I really avoided the things I usually do for myself(exercise, progressive relaxation, journalling, etc.) and just kind of "zoned out" in my spare time. I wonder if this is just because this is what I used to do, so it's comforting, or what?
