SSRI

I am allergic to SSRIs. They discovered it while trying to give me Zoloft... or was it Paxil...? Anyway, no matter lol. From what I gather I did not have a violent allergic reaction but rather a milder one. I basically broke out in large red hives all over my body in the first few days (as in 1-2 days) of the beginning of the treatment. I went immediately to the doctor's they told me I would be just fine gave me lotion to help with the itching told me to stop the meds and it should go away and it did. So anyway, it wasn't anything traumatic or horrible, just a nasty rash. Nothing some anti-itch lotion and time could not fix :p Anyway, my doctor confirmed I was allergic to SSRIs and put it in my file and now all is well. I think it is a rather rare allergy though. I haven't heard of many people reacting badly to SSRIs (I am the only person I know actually to react badly to them and I know more then one person who took them lol). For example, someone in my family takes it and hasn't had any bad side effects in over 4 years and hasn't has a panic attack in over 5 years. I think SSRIs are a good class of meds from what I hear. Anyway, I hope this helps and is the information you are looking for. May I ask why you needed to know? If it is too personal just don't mind me I guess lol, Later! -Diva

No, I have never been on SSRI'S. I do remember someone stating that they had an allergy or something though. Can't remember who it was. I am sure they will read this and let you know. I was given lexapro and am too afraid to take it. Sorry

Mel, Also be sure to consult your physician or pharmacist. They are the best authorities to determine whether or not you are allergic to any medication. Danielle ______________________ The PC Support Team
