Mental Symptoms Only?

18 years ago 0 21 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi David, I totally understand what you are going through. I do get some physical symptoms like hyperventilating and rapid heart beat etc but am not as afraid of them as I know it is only anxiety doing this. My anxiety and panic is more about the'fogginess' in my head and boy is it exhausting. I hate the anxious feeling and sometimes i have it every waking hour and sometimes not at all. I am agooraphobic due to this only for about 8 weeks now and I am trying my hardest to beat it before it gets any worse. I do find it hard to explain the 'mental' symptoms but it seems to come around as intense fear and I tend to cry alot when i get this. This is why I have not been able to drive my daughter to school for 6 weeks since she went back from holidays, I feel so guilty and terrible but I have to get past that and concentrate on getting better. I am doing some local driving about 3kms radius but still haven't gone through a traffic light. I wish you all the best of luck Regards ConquerQueen

Hello David, I am so glad you posted this. I never seem to have any physical symptoms either, or at least don't think I do. Sometimes, I wonder that if the mental overload, as you called it, is so consuming, I am not even aware of any physical symptoms. It's the racing mind and not being able to concentrate and just basic flooding of nutty thoughts that is so vexing. That is what I experience when I am feeling terror of a panic attack coming on. When an attack actually hits, (they rarely hit, though I think living in fear of them is worse) I get a bit of tunnel vision and short of breath. When it's over, I get an all over feeling of warmth and bizarrely enough, a sensation that feels good. Maybe it's just the adrenaline leaving my system or calming down that feels to good compared to the all out war with my body it was having 5 minutes prior. Sorry for the ramble. Just happy that you shared. ;)

Hi david, I get both myself. Sometimes I think I must be completely nuts and I am just waiting to go over the edge. I find myself reciting things over and over because I feel like I am forgetting things. I guess what I find so hard is that if none of my physical stuff is real everything that is going on is happening because of me. I just can't understand why I would allow this to keep going on. Why I cannot stop my thought processes from causing me all this aggravation. I feel out of control because I feel I should be able to stop my mind from thinking these thoughts. So that is why I keep using this site and getting as much information I can so I don't feel so alone or think I am losing my mind because so many of us are in the same boat. Thanks for listening and I will think good thoughts for you.

Hiya David, I cannot say i have had that experience since i have many physical symptoms but I agree that we are all very different and we all experience fear and anxiety in our own way. I still beleive that the program here can help you. It has very good info and thought challenging techniques. Anyway, hang in there :) -Diva

Hi David, Thanks for sharing your experiences with panic here with us. Yes this is normal - Your doctor is right - everyone may experience anxiety symptoms differently. It is good that you are able to identify and describe the source of your fears and anxiety. This will help you to apply these feelings to our online program. It helps to understand how your thinking patterns contribute to your symptoms so that you can change your thoughts and in turn your symptoms(your fears) are less likely to occur. You may find keeping track of these thoughts/fears useful - take advantage of the tools online here to assist with this. Keep us posted as to how you are doing. During my panic attacks, I've never had the physical symptoms like thinking I was dying, chest/heart pains and the rest, I just had what I would call a mental overload, the fear etc all come to a head and I blank out. Anyone else ever get this? My doctor says yes its anxiety and everyone is different but one of my worst fears is that its some other horrible mental illness, Even now with my generalised anxiety, I just feel funny,on edge and scared, Like i'm waiting on a monster to jump out of the cupboard and go boo... You know what I mean, Is this normal? I constantly think i'm going mad and always need reassurance
