Welcome Pamela and James!

Education is a REALLY huge part of the quit process!  We've often said here that knowledge is POWER and it often takes all that you can get to beat this addiction!   To me, successful quits depend on knowledge, support and desire... where desire is the main ingredient of the trio.  If you have that desire... that wanting to quit more that ANYTHING, your success rate climbs!  Great thread!

Yes, online resources are very useful to stop smoking although professional help is crucial. I was a heavy smoker, so I went to the doctor when I decided to stop. It was trying to quit for the first time and I got it. You just have to be convinced, and to get convinced it is very important to be informed about how cigarretes affect your body. This video explains briefly the keys to stop smoking. I hope you find it useful http://www.haveigotaproblem.com/video/1445/how-to-quit-smoking
I think that it is very important to know about the dangers of smoking. I'm trying to stop at the moment, and the main reason is because it is a unhealthy habit that kills you. Thank you for the video because now I am more convinced.

I love how we all share tips that may help others. For me, a member on here once put on a very emotive video made by a terminally ill smoker. The video affected me deeply and I have never forgotten it. Sadly the member who shared it has since left our boards, but the message worked for me at that time.

This free e-book has been helpful for me. It's very much about the cold turkey approach, but it was still useful as part of my NRT assisted quit. The understandings about how nicotine addiction works have been invaluable. I've also utilized this as a distractor; during some powerful urges, I've simply gone and read a chapter.
