chemical imbalance?

20 years ago 0 15 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Having battled with GAD/PD for approx. 16 years I'm at the point of being 100% convinced it is a chemical imbalance in part of the brain. In july,I was put on a new type of A/D (Remeron) which supposedly has anti-anxiety properties. In the meantime I had to withdraw from Paxil (no easy task).Anyway, the remeron for me did nothing beneficial except help me sleep.Every fear in all its subtle forms returned; too many fears to mention, however 3 days back on paxil the fears dissapeared like phantoms! Now process of elimination tells me that serotonin and 5HT in the brain MUST be at least partially responsible for some of these symptoms, because I had felt that no amount of 'self talk' could help with the physical& psychological feelings I was beginning to experience(with a vengance).I'm not saying that cognitive/behavioral techniques don't have their place, far from it,but I for one am now sure chemical imbalaces have definitely got to be addressed. What say you my fellow sufferers?..Neil.
