Correct symptoms?

Hi jessie, Thanks for the repsonse! To answer your questions: Yes and No. I don't feel like I am going to die when they occur in the sense that I just fear the death but I do feel like I'm going to stop breathing and that usually just scares me more. I've read some of the other systems and I don't have that fear of dying (where you're constantly worried). They don't even happen in stressful situations! That would make a little more sense. I've noticed they happen a lot more in certain places, such as movie theateres, and try to avoid those. They've been going on since Oct/Nov of 2001 (about two years). I don't remember exactly when but I remember having a serious one during my dad's b-day, oct. 11, and it was one of the first. Yes, I have insurance. For some reason talking about anxiety and usually just reading things on the site make me really anxious. I think the same thing would happen if I went to the doctor. I really don't want to do that. Thanks for listening and your help!

hey italiana! those sound like tried and true panic attack signs! do you have a fear of dying when they are happening? how long have they been gong on? if you can afford it or have insurance, i would still go check it out to make sure its notjhing serious. You can refuse medication if you'd like. Feel better and take care -Jessie

Hey everyone! (I posted this under the introduction board then realized I probably should have put it here since it's in regards to symptoms. Sorry about that!) I am new to the boards and was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm 17, a freshman in college, and have a couple questions about panic attacks. I've had panick attacks for the past two years. I am pretty sure that's what they are but have never gone (don't want to) to a doctor so don't really don't know. When they happen, I usually feel like I can't breath, my chest aches, or my throat is closing. I get them 2-3 times a week and seriously they're a real pain to deal with. Could you tell me if these sound like panick attacks to you? If not, any idea what they could be? Also, anything I can do to stop them? I am not intereted in meds. My uncle is bipolar and I hate what the lithium does to him. No meds for me =) I really appreciate all your help, thanks in advance!
