In general, it can take up to 4-6 weeks but be sure to keep your doctor or pharmacist aware of any side effects you experience while taking your medication. I was given lexapro but I am too scared to take it. However, my mom was put on it and it helped her significantly and she didn't gain any weight at all (she did gain with others like Paxil). For the first week she felt a little sick, with headaches and slight nausea but all of that went away after a week or so. She also said it worked pretty fast, after only 2 to 2 1/2 weeks, although it can take up to 6 weeks to take full effect. I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain, you should be fine. I have a question about Lexapro. Does it work immediately or does it take weeks? Also, I heard it causes weight gain which I cannot afford right now because I was 130 pounds 2 yrs ago and am now up to 170. I am only 5ft 4inches. The constant stress I have been under has caused my weight gain. I have been skinny my whole life. My doctor gave me Lexapro but I am too afraid to to take it. Any advise? Thanks all.

Mel, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I had a pretty hectic week with moving and my dentist appointment. We finally got our computer set back up so I just saw your messages. I am online on and off throughout the day but I can be on the CBT buddies in the evenings, like around 7 or 8. We can set up a specific date and time if you want and then exchange e-mails or something. Ok, sorry it took me so long to respond. I hate moving!! ~Isabella~
